The Project
A homeowner in Stockton-on-Tees found themselves with a growing problem: a mix of shrubs and trees, including berberis, cotoneaster and conifer, had sent roots deep enough to damage the drains and tangle themselves around underground cables. With a home insurance claim underway, the policyholder’s insurance provider instructed our North East tree surgeons to step in and put things right, quickly and safely.
The Challenge
The main challenge was the live cables tangled among the roots. Careless digging risked damaging essential comms infrastructure, so our team needed to expose and manage the cables safely before removing the shrubs and conifer. As with any insurance-instructed job, we were expected to work to a professional, white-glove standard, all within a single day.
Our Approach
We used cable avoidance and detection tools to locate the buried cables, then carefully hand-dug around them to expose and protect them throughout the works. Once the cables were secured, our tree surgeons used chainsaws, a woodchipper and hand tools to remove the shrubs and conifer, then ground out the remaining stumps with a stump grinder. The site was kept tidy throughout, to the standard expected on an insurance-instructed job.
The Result
The shrubs, conifer and stumps were all safely removed within a single day, with no damage caused to the drains, cables or wider property. The standard of work delivered met the expectations of a job instructed on behalf of an insurance provider.
