The Project
Storm Dave brought a serious challenge to Boldon Cricket Club when it hit in early April. A large, wind-damaged tree had suffered structural compromise, creating a significant risk for the site. Working on behalf of Savills, The Tree Fella team was called in to carry out a safe, controlled tree removal across a four-day operation.
The Challenge
The impact of Storm Dave left this tree in a dangerous and unpredictable state. The compromised structure meant our tree surgeons in Newcastle were working with stored energy in the wood, partial structural failures already present, and the constant potential for sudden movement. Add a restricted working area into the mix, and this was a job that required careful planning before a single cut was made.
Our Approach
Before any work began, we carried out a thorough assessment, identifying the likely direction of failure, calculating the load, and establishing secure anchor points. Specialist winching equipment was used to apply controlled tension throughout, stabilising the tree and keeping the situation predictable, and clear ground-to-operator communication was maintained at every stage. The result was a fully controlled removal, brought safely to the ground without shock loading.
The Result
The tree was removed safely and without incident. Boldon Cricket Club and Savills received a planned, professional response to an unpredictable storm damage situation, with the risk to people and property eliminated.
At The Tree Fella, professionalism, reliability, and safety are at the heart of everything we do. This project is a testament to our dedication, hard work, and commitment to our clients.
